It's a little known fact that the skin around our eyes is ten times thinner than the skin on the rest of the face1 At QV, we know it's essential to take extra care of this area as part of a daily skincare routine.
So, we've paired up with QV Consultant and Dermatologist, Platinum Dermatology, Dr. Jacqueline Matulich to get her tips in caring for the delicate and sensitive skin around the eyes.
With fewer oil glands, the sensitive skin around the eyes lacks the natural moisture present in other parts of the body which means it can easily become inflamed and as a result, age quicker.
Caring for this delicate area requires extra attention, a combination of the right products, good rest and ample hydration to keep this patch of skin looking and feeling hydrated all year round.
Water intake is the perfect remedy to help replenish and hydrate the skin, as well as provide essential moisture to help avoid dry skin. Most commonly, exposure to heating and air-conditioning can often result in dehydrated skin. To combat indoor climate-controlled temperatures during the changing seasons, it's important to keep hydrated throughout the day from the inside out:
Keep a water jug at your desk at work as a reminder to stay hydrated and help yourself to hit the recommended daily water intake of 2.5 litres
Hydration on the go: invest in your favourite water bottle (that fits in your bag) so you're never without a drop
Aim to set the room temperature at 21-22 degrees Celsius and maintain humidity levels of 60-70% to keep your skin at optimal hydration levels
It's important to moisturise the skin on the face frequently, including those sensitive skin areas around the eyes and nose. Choosing moisturisers which are free from common irritants, such as soap and fragrance, but have ingredients like niacinamide and Vitamin E, can help calm and moisturise skin.
