Baby's Skin
Baby's skin is more delicate than yours, and less resistant to harmful substances in the environment. Heat rash, infant acne, cradle cap, nappy rash and chafing are all common skin problems during childhood. The good news is that these problems can usually be easily managed.
- Avoid soap, which can strip the skin of protective oils.
- Avoid products that contain potential irritants such as colour, fragrance, lanolin and propylene glycol.
- Use mild, gentle non-soap cleansers and shampoos.
- Use a moisturiser regularly.
- Change wet or soiled nappies as soon as possible.
- Avoid exposure to the sun. If you are out, apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen, stay in the shade and wear a hat and sun protective clothing.
- If your baby has any of these skin issues, it is also important to consult your doctor or pharmacist for further advice.
